Geologically Kukurampola is situated on the boundary between the Highland and the Eastern Vijayan Complexes (HC and EVC). The characteristic feature of the hanging wall of the magnetite body is its highly mobilized nature. Dark amhibolitic bands were seen everywhere in the granitic host rock which is also often cut through by pegmatites and magnetite bearing small dykes. The other rocks in the area are gneissic rocks with varying degrees of acidity. These associations are similar to those at Kiruna, and Gellivare of Sweden. Both satellite imagery and the aerial photograph of the locality indicate that the magnetite bearing ridge is clearly a part of the Buttala “Klippe” lie on the thrust zone between HC and the EVC.
